Who is it for?
Senior personnel in a growing software development or services company who have an active interest in implementing more predictable, pragmatic, cost effective and efficient testing of their product set.
What is it about?
Are you confident that the new release of your product or service continues to meet the expectations of your clients? Are your key people increasingly tied up with testing? Do your clients ask how your product is tested? Do you have issues with cost of rework due to defects in your product?
A Software Development company’s success is often driven by the sale of an innovative or niche solution to a business problem. The reliability of the first release of the product will generally be high due to tenacious testing by the core team of developers, manual writers, sales and marketers. However this success will bring with it customer demands for changes to the product; examples include improvements to functionality, security, scalability and diversity of operating environment to name but a few. With change comes the risk of adversely impacting the quality of the product or service.
nFocus Technical Director Danny Crone has been recently recognised for his work with Visual Studio 2010 and the Application Lifecycle Management competency by being awarded Microsoft ALM Ranger status!
Danny has worked extensively with Visual Studio throughout his career, and more recently with Visual Studio 2010 which he has been heavily involved since beta. This experience has been invaluable in helping clients get the most out of the test functionality within the latest release, and in doing so makes Danny a valuable asset within the Ranger team.
As an ALM Ranger, Danny will be helping to deliver out of band solutions for missing features or guidance. This means he will be working very closely with the product team, and other Rangers to continue the progress of Visual Studio.
The Rangers are made up of both internal Microsoft people from MCS (Microsoft Consulting Services), MVP’s and key people within the ALM community. Danny explained that, “it is a great honour to be asked to become one of the very few UK VS2010 Rangers, and it is something I will be devoting my time to over the next few months.”

If you need help with Visual Studio 2010, why not get in touch with nFocus? nFocus offer both Test Manager and Coded UI training courses, as well bespoke consultancy around the tool-set. If you would like further information about either of the above, please email us at email@example.com.
Today (26/04/2011) nFocus is delighted to announce the successful launch of its newest training offering, Visual Studio 2010 Test Manager and Coded UI training course.
The course has been described as a departure from the normal style of product training in that clients can take advantage of the very powerful flexibility the Microsoft software testing tool set offers. Rather than simply show you how to operate the tools as they come out of the box, which is the only way to use many test tools, these two practical days focus on analysing your own process and how to adapt the way the tool works to fit your process.
nFocus are in a unique position to deliver such training as not only the first test consultancy in the world to get the Microsoft Gold Application Lifecycle Management Competency partner status, but also this accolade has been attained through our experience of using both Test Manager and Coded UI on a vast range of projects.
Allpay Limited, a leading financial payment processing organisation, was one of the first recipients of the course. Richard Wagstaff, Assistant QA Manager commended that the “training was led by instructors who were clearly experts in their field and presented with a mix of test theory and practical, real world, exercises. I highly recommend the entire nFocus team to anyone who is looking for training from a company who live and breathe test and who actually practice what they preach daily.”
Danny Crone, nFocus Technical Director explained, “This practical course is borne out of using the tools in real life projects for a range of clients. The clear value in undertaking this training course is in using the tools in real life situations, allowing these newly developed skills to be applied back on project.”
If you would like more information about the course, please visit our Visual Studio 2010 Test Manager and Coded UI web page, or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

nFocus's Danny Crone was recently interviewed by Giles Davies, Developer Tools Specialist at Microsoft focussing on Visual Studio 2010 Test Professional.
The video of this interview can be seen below.
(31/01/2011) nFocus, a specialist in software application testing and test consultancy on the Microsoft platform are today delighted to announce that they are the first dedicated software testing consultancy in the UK to receive the Gold standard for the Microsoft Application Lifecycle Management Competency (ALM).
The evolution of the Microsoft Partner Network has allowed organisations to be rewarded and recognised for their specialities. The network is now made up of 28 competencies that reflect the depth and breadth of Microsoft technologies. These competencies are earned on a Silver and Gold basis, in which partners are stringently examined in those particular areas. As a result, only the most skilled, experienced and successful partners will receive the prestigious Gold standard. nFocus has been specialising in Microsoft technologies over the past decade, and most recently in the Visual Studio 2010 application lifecycle management tool-set.
nFocus Managing Director Ross Lister stated, “The Gold ALM Competency has cemented the fantastic relationship we have with Microsoft. As a testing specialist, we were thrilled to be invited into the Inner Circle in January 2010, and now even more so to be recognised for our expertise in the test domain for Microsoft technologies”. Lister continued, “The testing tools within Visual Studio 2010 have proved fundamental in the success of many of our high profile projects, and I believe this will continue throughout 2011”.
Philippa Snare, Director of Sales, Strategy and Planning for Developer Tools at Microsoft added “We’re delighted that nFocus have been successful in achieving Gold ALM Competency. It is critical that we continue to ensure our customers benefit from the on-going professional development of partners like nFocus. It’s not easy to get to achieve the Gold Competency and we are delighted that nFocus have led the way for our Test offering".
The new competency based Partner Network with its hardened set of requirements means only a select elite will ever receive the Gold ALM standard, and so nFocus are privileged to be one of these select few.
